Fort Wayne Metals is an industry leader in the research and development of fine-grade medical wire made of stainless steel, titanium and titanium alloy, specialty alloys, and precious metals such as silver and platinum. Fort Wayne Metals’ main headquarters and facilities reside in Fort Wayne, Indiana, but production, warehouse, and sales facilities also exist in Ireland to serve the European market.
The Situation
As an international company leading its industry, Fort Wayne Metals needed a website that could mirror that identity and establish the company on the cutting edge of online trends and technology. The company’s old site was visually dated in terms of its general design and the images incorporated throughout. It suffered from a dark overall appearance and a static layout, devoid of movement.
Fort Wayne Metals’ old website needed restructuring in terms of visual hierarchy as well. The company’s logo was displayed as an outline below each page’s content, visually placing it lower in the hierarchy. Visitors to the Fort Wayne Metals website were also unable to view the company’s promotional video online in an easy streaming format.
The Solution
Aptera began by overhauling the visual style of the website, brightening the color pallet used and incorporating a brushed metal texture throughout the pages. Next, a dimensional effect was added by giving each image a border effect and detailing the design with shadows and fades. Specification tables were styled to maintain the overall design.
The home page includes a large Flash banner that displays a slideshow of Fort Wayne Metals’ offices, adding movement to the page. The banner also features the Fort Wayne Metals logo, brightened and colored to draw attention. The logo, along with a link to Fort Wayne Metals’ promotional video, is displayed on every page. This allows visitors to stream the video without downloading it at any time while they navigate the new site.
