USAIM Website
Company Profile
The University of Seychelles American Institute of Medicine (USAIM) is located on the charming, scenic Seychelles Islands in the Indian Ocean with main and executive offices in Fort Wayne, Indiana. The university and its curriculum are designed to provide intellectual and technical expertise to help gifted students develop their abilities into professional skills. USAIM offers special programs to prepare students for the future of independent medical research and boasts an over 90 percent success rate in the USMLE and MCI screening tests.
The Situation
Because of USAIM’s unique university location, bandwidth limitations were a serious consideration when planning a Web site. The campus’ connectivity is not always reliable in terms of speed, so certain features that are typically used to enhance a site’s appearance, such as Flash, could not be used without increasing load times.
USAIM had a Web site already, but in terms of design it was out of date. One of the University’s goals was to create a Web presence that conveyed not only a beautiful tropical setting, but the serious academic atmosphere and expertise. Also, there wasn’t any way for USAIM to edit or change the content without calling a developer, so a content management system needed to be incorporated.
The Solution
Aptera completely redesigned the USAIM Web site to provide visitors with a professional looking and easy to navigate layout with many points of interest. Simple dropdown navigation was developed using JavaScript and images were optimized to keep load times at a minimum.
One of the best features of the new USAIM site is the fact that it was built in Sitefinity, a content management system that uses ASP.NET technology. Sitefinity allows USAIM administrators to edit many aspects of the site without the assistance of a developer. This cuts down on maintenance costs and ensures the ability to post fresh content. Aptera provided Sitefinity training, allowing USAIM to add news items, update images, and change text with ease.
The new site also interacts seamlessly with the Web Portal that was developed earlier by Aptera’s software developers. A similar look and feel is used by the public areas of the site and the secure portion where faculty and students can login to add or drop classes, approve or view grades, etc.
